Post 24x7 SNMP Extension Agent Timeout Reply with quote

We're getting many errors in our Event Log stating
"24x7 SNMP Extension Agent: Timeout occurred while waiting for trap data."

I'm not aware that this is causing any actual
problems, but would like to get rid of this error.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

Method 1 - disable jobs that are set to listen for SNMP traps.
Method 2 - Turn off the SNMP Windows service then delete 24x7snmp.dll

What type of job would be set to listen for SNMP traps? The only SNMP activity I have are MailSend and the default error notifications.

Thanks

You are not confusing SNMP and SMTP? Are you?

SNMP stands for Simple Network Management Protocol wihc is used for network and system management, while SMTP stands for Simple Mail Tranfer Protocol and it is amonth email protocol supported by 24x7.
SNMP has nothing to do with email.

I am confusing it. What type of jobs would use it then and how do I disable it?

Jobs can be setup to monitor for network problems, react to SNMP events generated by various devices (prointers, network switches, etc...) and applications (for example, when system runs low of disk space or database encounters some errors) 24x7 can capture these events and run alerts or fix-it operations. For more info get a book about SNMP.

What do you want to disable? If you don't want SNMP functions isply don't use them.
