Post PING (JAL) Reply with quote

When I try to PING an IP-Adresse (e.g 192.168.10.10), Dr. Watson (NT) appears on the screen and 24x7 breaks down. The same behavior on a W2K-PC. What can I do?

Which 24x7 version do you run?
Do you have 24x7ping.dll in your 24x7 home directory?

1. Version 3.1.1
2. Yes, the 24x7ping.dll is there.

But there is one thing I tried. When I inserted a WINS-Name into the PING-Parameters, it worked. But the problem is, that I can't use WINS-Names in that script.

It should not crash even if the pinging fails, but may be it crashes in one of your network dlls? Try turning on tracing feature in 24x7 (Tools/Options menu, Log page, "Trace enabled" option) and then pinging again. Watch for additional diagnostic messages that will appear in the trace window. Please let us know what you get there.

Yes, he telles me that there is a ....hmmm... I try to translate it.:
Access-error (0xc0000005) on Adress: 0x11455516.
In German:
Ausnahme: Zugriffsverletzung (0x0000005), Adesse: 0x11455516

Then 24x7 Scheduler closes. And this happens in the same way on two different machines. W2K and WinNT.

Which Winsock version do you have on your system? (you can check it in the Properties of winsock.dll)

Does Pinging cause crashing for any IP address or just for one or some of them?
Have you tried pinging by computer name?
Have you tried pinging other computers?

Are you sure you don't have in the trace window messages like "Attempting to resolve host by name..." and/or "Attempting to resolve host by ip address..." ?

What is date and size of your 24x7ping.dll?

Is your network slow or often expiriences congestions?

I solved the problem, by writing WINS-Entries in the hostsfile.
So I don't have to work with IPs. Now Dr. Watson isn't appearing by using this script.

He may have solved his problem, but I'm also having this problem.

Here's some info:
24x7 version: 3.2.1

winsock version: 3.10.0.103

the 24x7ping.dll is in the main 24x7 directory

I have turned the trace on. It shows the stats for the packet, then 24x7 crashes. I did not see the "Attempting" messages.

The size and date of the 24x7ping.dll are 4/13/2001, 24,576 bytes

The operating system is Windows 2000, 5.00.2195, SP2

I have tried using the DOS version of ping with no problems.

Our network isn't slow or congested.

Anything else you want to know?

Ping (24x7) crashed when using IP. Using the name was fine.

It seems to crash with any IP. Even 127.0.0.1

Any suggestions as to a solution?

What other information do you need?
