Hi,

Is there anything special we need to do, for LDAP server databases?

We have one that's an exact copy of an ordinary Oracle database that's configured in TNSNAMES.

But I'm not able to connect to it from Sql Assistant. Sql Developer has an LDAP option, so that was pretty quick, but I prefer to use Sql Assistant.

Which protocol is used by the Oracle client depends on the settings in SQLNET.ORA file. If you configure it like
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH=(LDAP, TNSNAMES)
Then all applications using Oracle client (including SQL Assistant, unless you choose SQL.NET for the connection instead of Oracle native client) will try LDAP first, then try settings in TNSNAMES.ORA, and if neither provides the value for the given Oracle name, then it fails.

There is also LDAP.ORA optional file that is typically in %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin directory or wherever %TNS_ADMIN% variable points to. In LDAP.ORA you can specify your directory servers, for example

DEFAULT_ADMIN_CONTEXT = “ou=ora,dc=company,dc=com”
DIRECTORY_SERVERS = (ldap1.company.com:389, ldap2.company.com:389)
DIRECTORY_SERVER_TYPE = OID
The type can be OID or AD. The multiple servers are for redundancy; it will try whichever is accessible first, but want' check the others

More info can be found in Oracle client configuration documentation

Hope this helps
