Post SSMS 20.2 SQL Assistant V13 install not show on menu bar Reply with quote
I installed SSMS 20.2 a while back, we just new keys for V13, I installed it and then started SSMS 20.2, it does not have any menu bar selection for SQL Assistant.
I tried to uninstall it and install it and still nothing.
When I exit SSMS it does come up with the SQL Assistant save work popup.
I have no idea how to get this to work, until I do I am stuck using SSMS 19.3 that is still working.
Hoping someone has something I can do to resolve this issue.
Thanks

You can simply unregister and then reregister SSMS add-on in SQL Assistant options to help it find the new version and add the add-on.

SQL Assistant main Options dialog -> Targets tab -> SQL Server Management Studio -> "Advanced" section on the right, expand it. "Register SQL Assistant Add-on" change to No and click the Apply button. The change it back to Yes, and click the Apply button again.

Thank you for the quick response, I followed the instructions, but I still don't get the menu bar item and no intelisense.
They had me install it with an admin account but the admin account used to install it can not access SQL server so I have to use my normal account.
It's a mess, not sure what to try next, I did not reboot or anything like that.
I do see SQL Assistant scan for the cache and the recover files and save on exit.

SQL Assistant supports two option: registering addons for all users and for current user, basically it updates different parts of the registry. The first option requires reinstalling or upgrading SQL Assistant using an admin account with elevetated privileges. The second option doesn't require that, and it can be used with the Options dialog. It updates current user settings only. If used with an "admin" account/mode it would update it for that admin account. If you then start SSMS as yourself, not everything will be the same. Hope this helps.

I'mi jumping into this old thread because I have now the same issue.
In migrating from SQL 2017 to 2022, now I'd like to move from SSMS 18 to SSMS 20. But I have the same issue as user remenard: Sql Assistant not showing in the menu and not showing the Intellisense, BUT showing the menu before closing the SSMS. Additionally, trying to use CTRL + SHIFT + F5 an error message appears

Unsupported window class
(HwndWrapper[DefaultDomain;;b3ad6b22-beba-44fb-b617-83
6423b2f71f)).

I've already tryied the "Register SQL Assistant Add-on" No and Yes change, with no success.

Thanks for any help
Best

Do you see a file "C:\Users\[your user name here]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\SQL Server Management Studio\20.0_IsoShell\Extensions\SoftTree Technologies\SqlAssist.vs\1.0\extension.vsixmanifest"?

Thanks. The following part of the path you indicated doesn't exist

"..\SoftTree Technologies\SqlAssist.vs\1.0\extension.vsixmanifest"

I've tried to add the folder I found under the "\19.0_IsoShell folder", but it didn't work

That file missing is a sign that the addon isn't installed for SSMS 20. Could a result of UAC undoing it silently, or SQL Assistant not finding it installed. It requires more than just a single file. Please try one more time to register it. You may want to try both registering it in regular mode or Run as Administrator.

Thanks for your reply. I did again the "register add in process" (both with usual and admin credentials) with no success: the folder is still missing

Could you please run the diagnostics utility and share the output.? The link can be found in the Options dialog About tab.

I assume you are running the latest version 13.5 which supports all SSMS versions up to 21.1
