My understanding is that hierarchyid functions are not like global built-in function. They are like object class functions specific to hierarchyid data type. The current version of SQL Intellisense doesn't yet support class specific functions and attributes. The Next version of SQL Intellisense should support specific functions and attributes. for example: Sql Prompt.
