Migrating from server 2008R2 to Server 2012/2016 |
|
Currently we have 24x7 v5.1 running on server 2008 R2. SoftTree support told me that v5.1 will work on 2012/2016 servers. What is the best way to migrate the installation over so that we don't lose our jobs, schedules, calendars etc..
Thanks in advance.

Here is a crude and simple way to do that. Say, you have it installed in C:\24x7 folder on the old computer. On the new computer install the software into the same location. Do not start it after the installation, if the 24x7 Scheduler service is installed and started, shut it down. Copy C:\24x7\preferences.xml and C:\24x7\DefaultJobDB.data from the old computer to the new computer. That should do it. Start the scheduler on the new computer and verify everything is in place.

Thank you. I'll report back once I try this. Likely it wont be for a long time.

One important detail has been left: When you start the scheduler first time, please start it in desktop mode, not as a service , and be sure to start it using Run as Administrator option. This is required for the scheduler to properly update Windows registry settings from the copied preferences.xml file.
