[SA 7.0.158 Pro] - Bookmarks |
|
I'm sure I'm in minority here with not having numeric keypad, neither on my laptop nor on my desktop, and I wouldn't use it even if I had. The only drawback I had to face so far is that I cannot use hotkeys for adding/going to bookmarks using hotkeys but that's something I can live with, I use them with mouse. It's also nice to have a little snapshot view of the code present at a certain bookmark hovering the mouse over it.
Now what I want to say is that while it proves quite useful to be able to quickly access bookmarks using hotkeys, an with the usual bookmarks (that come with clicking the mouse or using the hotkeys) there isn't a big problem but when they are saved in files/code using the [bookmark] keyword those numbers assigned to them are pretty meaningless after a period of time, one usually forgets where one put this/that bookmark and the number really does not help much. Of course, one can hover the mouse over each of them but that sort of kills their purpose. Besides, they don't work when there are more than 10 of them anyway.
On the other hand, in the panel Tasks and Reminders you can see the rest of the line after the keyword next to the bookmark itself. Could you implement the same (or something similar, an abbreviation maybe) in the bookmarks icon, next to the number?

I'm not sure I understand where you want to see the text next to the bookmark number. In the Tasks and Reminders window?

No. It's visible there already.
I've got a couple of numbered bookmarks here that I saved eons ago when I was editing this file but I've got no idea what they were for. I've got to check each of them again to see where and why were they there. And there are dozens of such files. It would be nice if it was possible to see some keywords next to the bookmark numbers. Check this screenshot here:
You can see the words after the keyword in Tasks and Reminders, but I'd like to see them in main editor bookmark icon, next to the bookmark number as well.

Unfortunately, there are some technical constraints, We cannot add dynamic text to the floating bookmark icons and the mouse over is already "hooked" to preview of the bookmarked text.

I see. And what about a hotkey that would show the preview windows for all the set bookmarks simultaneously? If one could click on the preview instead of the tiny little bookmark icon to get to the code part then all the better. Would that be possible?
EDIT:
Another "small" suggestion. Right now the Tasks and Reminders window is glued to the bottom of the editor window. On the other hand, it has (almost) everything I asked for.
With some "minor" modifications it could be turned into something very powerful:
- by making it dockable, it could be moved to the side of the window where it could function similar to the bookmark icons, except the feature of displaying text next to [bookmark] keyword included (and sadly, hover snapshot removed).
- by having the current editor content/file permanently included at the top of the result tree, it would always work for the current window.
What I find a bit confusing:
- it always wants to reload the contents of the file, even if I have it open right in the current tab
- and to make it worse, if it isn't open in the current tab, (I guess) it simply reloads the file, but neither does it jump to the bookmark nor does it switch to the tab where the file is open.
