Post [SA 6.5.278] SA doesn't work with Sql Management Studio 2014 Reply with quote
Hi. Trying to use SA with a fresh new installed Sql Management Studio 2014, pressing CTRL+SHIFT+F5 I get the error you can find in the attached image and, generally speaking, SA doesn't work at all.
Instead, SA works perfectly with Sql Management Studio 2005, already installed on the same PC (a Win 7 64 bit).

Obviously, I'd need some help

Thanks a lot in advance
Regards

Andrea

Have you registered SQL Assistant plugin for Sql Management Studio 2014 after you installed the new version?

How? I have to do a re-installation?
In the list of registered targets in the options menu of SA, Sql Management Studio is already selected
Maybe the problem arises from the 64 bit of the Management Studio 2012?

Thanks

Andrea

I did as follows:
- I have removed the 64bit version of MS Management Studio 2014
- I have installed the 32bit version of MS Management Studio 2014
- I removed and installed the last version of Sql Assistant

But, it still doesn't work. With almost the same error

Thanks

Andrea

If you are meaning the menu bar of SSMS 2014, no, SA is not listed. In SMSS 2005, yes, there is the SA menu after the "Query" menu

Any help?

Thanks

As asked in the previous message, please check names of extensions and add-on listed in your SSMS settings, SQL Assistant should appear in that list and should be enabled. If it's not there or disabled, it obviously won't work.

I don't have your SSMS version locally and cannot tell you where to look for that list. In VS 2014, that list is in Tools/Options menu, Environment, then Extensions and Updates.

One other suggestion, try starting SSMS in Run as Administrator mode and see if extensions get enabled in that mode.

Thanks for your answer
I don't have VS installed, only SSMS 2014 and, as you can see from the snapshot, there isn't a the "Extension and Updates" menu you are talking about.

I tried starting SSMS in "Run as Administrator" mode, but it doesn't work

I'm afraid you didn't select the option in SQL Assistant setup to install add-ons for SSMS 2012/2014. There is a separate option for that.

You can also re-register and re-install add-ons for installed SSMS versions using SQL Assistant's Options dialog. Select MS Management Studio target, expand Advanced options on the right, set Register SQL Assistant Add-on to No, click the Apply button, then revert it back to Yes, and Apply again.
