Suggestion: Excel like SUM on status bar |
|
May I suggest SoftTree to add MS Excel like aggregates (SUM/AVG) on sql server status bar when more then one row/col(of type numeric) is selected on query result pane . As a developer i find it difficult to sum few rows on sql server result pane, every time i need to copy those data on excel to get sum at a glance. Hope u understood what i mean.

Version 6.2 will allow direct data export/import to Excel. Hope that will make our life easier.
Anyone interested in testing the current preview version?

I'm not quite sure that's what Hitesh was thinking about. As for me, I use a couple of hotkey enhancements that make copy-paste and task switching a whole lot easier but it's still much slower than to select the cells and check the value. Losing the line of sight to the source code/result set makes me anxious :)

Sorry I think u have not got my point stright, I did not mean Imp/Exp of data to/from excel.
What i mean is excel like feature to see SUM at a glance on status bar of qurey result pane.
To make u understand my point, just open ms excel and
- type in value 10 (in A1), 20 (in B1), 30 (in A2), 40 (in B2)
- now select A1,A2 and see their SUM in excel status bar, likewise
- select all 4 cols (a1,a2,b1,2) see their SUM in excel status bar.
This will be a real handy feature for developers if provided in SQL Assitance.
Hope I made my point clear now!

I'm pretty sure i know what you described, it s called "auto SUM" Excel feature for selected cells. What I tried to say, is while there is no exact match in SQL Assistant, version 6.2 will provide one-click data export to Excel, directly from the data grid, so that if you need to analyze the data, you can use full power of Excel and it will be just 1 click away. Yes, it requires 1 extra step, but then you can slice and dice that data anyway you want. In the end, may be it's not that bad after all :)

Certainly :) Every new feature is welcome. With two screen setup it could be extremely useful. I'll definitely try it.

I got your point and it will be usefull indeed.
BUT, Think about Adding a status bar to sql assistant query result pane that would be helpfull in displaying auto SUM/COUNT etc.

SoftTree guys any update on "display of auto SUM/Count of selected cells or rows or cols" feature request?

As far as I know this new feature was planned tentatively for the upcoming release of the new major version. I'm not sure about the status of the implementation, I will check and get back to you by Monday.

If this is done as requested, it will save lot of time indeed. I can get rid off using manual calculator and also i can see SUM using any combination of cells (by rows or cols). Can't wait to see this working on my SQL editor

Here is the response I got, It's planned for release, but not yet completed, we're still working on that and it should be complete before the beta version is out.
