24/7 Scheduler Vr 3.4.6 Unable to Run as Service |
|
I am trying to run 24/7 Scheduler as a service instead of keeping the application always up and running. When i changed the application over to run as a service the application fail to run the scheduled tasks.
I recieve no error alerts or id that I can see in the Event Viewer. Any words of advice on this would be great as I am not the orignal ower of this application and I really do not know how it is suppose to work.
Thanks,
Paula

Do you run trial versiong?
What do you get in the schedule.log file when you start the service?

The service is failing because it states that the user account being used does not have the proper credentials to run as a service. What is the normal way this serivce it to be run. Currently in order for the program to run we need to keep it open and stay logged onto the computer. We would lilke to make it so that is not the case.
If there is a different way to run this service without use the account i am currently trying to use which is a standard domain account I would like to do that.
Any insight would be great.
Thanks,
Paula

Hi,
Normally you should be using an admin account to run 24x7 service.
In case you insist on using a low privileged account and fighting system for privileges for every job and process that you need to run from a service, make sure for beginning that the chosen user account has the required privilege as described in the Microsoft Windows error message (not 24x7 error message). Depending on whether you are trying to use a local account or domain account, use either Windows Local Security Policy Editor or Active Directory to modify user's privileges and give that user "Logon as a service" right.
I should warn you that the user likely doesn't have some other required privileges and there is a good chance that some of the currently running jobs will likely stop running correctly when started from a service, until you give that user sufficient privileges. What privileges are required greatly depends on what the scheduled jobs do.
If you are unable to figure out why a job fails when started from a service, please provide as much details as possible and we will try to help you with the system and job setup.

Same Issue as the one specified in this thread |
|
Hi,
I am evaluating 24x7 and i have installed the trial copy of the windows version of 24x7. I have configured to run the thing as a service with a domain admin account and the moment i run 24x7 as a service none of the jobs are executing. Also, there are no log-entries in either the debug.log or the schedule.log file after i have switched to the service mode. Can you please help me out in this. Also, i can't find the jar file for the web administration module anywhere in the install log. Thanks.
Regards,
Sankar

Please open up Services and make sure 24x7 shows up there. Are you starting the service from here, or are you running something from the command line?

Hi,
Yes the 24x7 is visible in the services.msc and it is showing as started there. But nothing else happens.

It's odd that you see nothing in the schedule.log. Please check the service configuration and make sure it's pointing to the right executable. Then check the Windows Event log to see if there's any relevant failure messages.

Hi,
I have again enabled it as a service. See the last few lines of the schedule.log below. The Terminating log entry is when i quit the 24x7 app and go and restart the machine so that the service can start. As you can see after that there is nothing in the log. I have attached the screenshot where it shows that the service is showing as started. I am running this on Win 2003 SP2.

What is the executable path for the service?
When you run the scheduler as an application, are you logged in as the user you've configured the service to use?
Did you check the Windows Event log for anything?

That's not exactly the same issue. You stated that you are running trial version of 24x7. The only account that can be used with the trial version is LocalSystem. You cannot use any other account. That is specific to the trial version only that must be able to interact with the desktop (only available to LocalSystem account) and the service won'
t really start completely if you miss the Evaluation Reminder dialog on the service startup, which you currently
Please note that you get a warning message box in 24x7 if you change accounts settings to anything else using 24x7 Tools/Options menu, Service tab while in the trial mode. Please don't ignore that warning. It's there on purpose.
Also please note that in the non-trial mode you can use any account you choose as long as that account has sufficient privileges to run the required jobs.
Thanks, SysOp
By the way, 24x7 Windows version is scheduled to be end-of-life by the end of this year. Please upgrade to 24x7 Multi-platform Edition which supersedes the Windows version. The download is here http://www.softtreetech.com/forms/download-form.shtml?id=2
