Post Error received when selecting Edit JAL Script Library Reply with quote
I have installed 24x7 scheduler multi-platform v4.4.317 on my PC and it is giving the attached error when selecting the Edit JAL Scrip Library menu item.

I have also installed the same version on my 64bit server and instead of receiving an error, the window never comes up. Please help. Thanks.[/img]

Hi,

Have you previously tried installing 24x7 Automation Suite on this system?

In the system registry, do you have "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0\ScheduleFile" value? If yes, does it refer to a valid file? If not, please remove that value (don't empty, delete the entire value from the registry)

Yes, I have both windows version 3.6.2 and the multi-platform version installed on the same computer. Do they not coexist with each other? In the registry, there is a valid value in the ScheduleFile key. Do I still need to remove it? Thanks.

Yes, they can coexist. But here is the thing, if the multi-platform version is installed alone, it uses it own script library and settings. If it is installed along with the windows version, it attempts to pull certain settings from the Windows version. Still, it is better to leave it alone.

You may want to take a look at this document http://softtreetech.com/24x7/Upgrade_24x7W_to_24x7MP.pdf

When you say to leave it alone, you mean leave the registry setting alone? If so, how do I get pass the java error?

Also, my plan is to migrate jobs gradually from windows version to multi-platform in our production environment so I would need both schedulers to coexist happily with each other. Is that recommended?

Please manually execute jal.exe /LIBRARY from the JAL subfolder of 24x7 MP Edition. Please let us know what you get.

If we can make this work, you can then simply copy your existing job database file to library.dat and this way you can share the script library. If that works, you can then migrate jobs over-time incrementally.

Executing jal.exe /LIBRARY brought up the script library window. However, I am unable to add new scripts from this window. The error, "error adding new statement to the Script Library!", appeared. I am able to view and edit the existing 7 default scripts that came with the product though. Is that the expected result? If not, please let me know what should be the next step. Thanks.

After applying the patch indicated, now I am able to add new scripts into the library. However, I then ran into another issue. I wanted to paste text into the new JAL script window and for some reason, the paste option is not highlighted. I was able to paste it into notepad just fine so not sure what the issue is. Please advise. Thanks.

This looks like a little bug to me.

Here is what you can do to make the Past work

Type something in the 24x7 code editor opened from the script library. Select and copy the entered text. This action should make the Paste menu item and toolbar icons enabled. Switch to Notepad or other editor with the code you want for the script library. Copy that code into the clipboard, switch back to 24x7 code editor and paste the clipboard contents.
