No connection to Alert Center |
|
Hai,
I have succesfull installed the trial version of Audit DB, including the Alert Center and Repository.
There is only thing that's not working and thats a connection to the Alert Center with the Alert Center Remote Concole.
Not an time out or error, nothing. The only thing i can do is quit on the hard way. Than there is the message "Applications is not responding".
With telnet i can make a proper connection to the server and port.
On the server were the Alert Center is installed, the connection port is 'Listening'.
What is goining on and what can i do to make a conection to the Alert Center.
Senks in advanced.
Jeanneke

Is port 1096 open in the firewall?
What type of operation system the Alert Center is running on?

There is no firewall.
The servers are all in one network cluster.
The Alert center is running on an Windows 2003 Server with SQL Server 2005.
In the meantime i found an launcher.log and with the following error in it on the time i tried to make connection.
02/10/2010 15:52:38.396 ( 1400): launcher.c(1.72)682 (D=1) (E=0) (LE=0) -- Launcher Daemon: execute inetd ...
02/10/2010 15:52:38.412 ( 5532): launchserver.c(1.63)877 (D=1) (E=0) (LE=0) -- ------------------- INETD Launcher -------------------
02/10/2010 15:52:38.412 ( 5532): comm.c(1.35)692 (D=2) (E=2) (LE=0) -- greeting_check_keyword: Unknown greeting keyword ()
Is this error mean something to you and is this related to the problem i have ?
Is the an other log wich i intersting ?

I don't recognize this log file. It is not from DB Audit.
what happens when you run the following command from Win XP machine?
telnet win2003_server_name_here 1096
Does it connect and the screen goes blank or does it report connection errors?

The result is an error:
Connecting To server...Could not open connection to the host, on port 1096: Connect
failed

This means that your win 2003 server is unreachable on port 1096. Please review your cluster settings and verify that port 1096 is allowed.
I guess the issue is in the cluster settings which likely require explicit rules for each port, because of the cluster fail-over requirements.

The Alert center don't use port 1096, but 1097. And 1097 is reachable, the screen goes blank.
By the way, the launcher.log is an log from the Alert Center.
I found it in C:\Program Files\Quest Software\pa_agent\1097\agents\log

We are not affiliated with Quest and the referenced log file should have nothing to do with the Alert Center, unless you are running some software which is interfering.
Please run on the win2003 server the following
netstat -a -b
Which program does it show as listening on port 1097?

OK, now i'm one step further.

But now i'm getting the message :
"Unable to connect to Alert Center. Unable to ertrieve last error message from server "
On which standard port is the Alert Center Scheduler running ?

That should be 1097. Please restart the Alert Center scheduler, shut it down or just kill the process.
I guess it could start cleanly when 1097 port was in use. If that doesn't help, please take a look at debug.log file in the Alert Center install directory. If you see any exceptions reported in that file, please let us know.

I think i found the cause of all the trouble.
I tried to start the 24x7 Remote Agent with GUI as written in the help file (i found): "Run Agent.sh (or Agent.bat) file. The 24x7 Remote Agent starts.
The Alert Center "
So i did. And now i'm getting this message.
ERROR: Unsupported Java version. Version 1.4.2 is required! You are using 16.0-b
13
In the User's Guide there written : " If JDK or JRE is not installed on the system or the installed version is older then 1.4.2 install Java
2 Platform, Standard Edition v 1.4.x or better.:
And still i don't understand ... the 24x7 Scheduler service is running!

I'm not sure which manual you are reading. Please use DB Audit User's Guide which is installed with the DB Audit Management Console.
Technically, to start the Alert Center, you should either use the icon installed in the Windows Start menu, which is just for that (labeled as "Alert Center Scheduler") or use master.bat, for example,
master.bat nogui
And the required JRE is installed with the Alert Center, so you don't need to worry about if you use the right startup method.
