This log looks clean. No indication of any anomalies. So that is a normal business issue

I suspect that your network user name is not the same name that you use for the remote connection. As a result, the scheduler is unable to verify that the user who created the job actually has sufficient permissions. Please configure a an account for yourself, using your network user name and add it to the Administrators group.

That doesn't make a great deal of sense considering I can connect and view jobs, run jobs, update jobs, but not create a new one?

It surely appears confusing.

Whenever a job is modified, 24x7 records network user name, system name, system time, and saves them in the "MODIFIED_XXX" job properties - as who, where, and when. When the job definition is saved to the master scheduler, it compares the network user name in job properties against the permissions. And this is where a discrepancy in the user name may cause issues.

On the other hand, the documentation says that it is recommended to use your network user name as your application user name. The 24x7 MP Edition already relies on the OS for user authentication and password management and I think that 24x7 Win Edition eventually will do the same.

Regards

Should I be using domain qualification in the name of the account you want me to define? so should it be

*domain*\*user*
or just
*user*

*user* - basically the same name that appears in job properties in Modified By read-only property

So I've created a named account, the only way I was able to do this was to stop the service, start up the local console as a process, create the account and save the job db.

I can now use the rcontrol console to create jobs, but not update job db security to add other accounts. Should I be able to? trace attached of a successful jobb save and an unsuccessful security save.

Yes, if you are a member of Administrators group in 24x7 settings, you should be able to use the Remote console to manage users and permissions.

The provided trace has some text truncated on the left side, I cannot see methods invoked on the client and the matching server responses.

Please repost the complete trace. Just in case, you can grab it from screen or from .LOG files created in 24x7 Remote Console installation directory.

Further on the jobrun issue, we had it this morning with a job that the jal script inside the job was updated with the JSP web console since the previous run.

I've just checked a test job and can reproduce the behaviour, no difference between my windows account matched account and the regular account either.

For security settings updates, the console certainly makes an attempt to update it. The following line in the posted trace is just for that

DPB48 SessionId (0BB9B218): Invoke : instanceId(00B342EF), uf_updatesecurity(LRO), numArgs(1) SYNCHRONOUS

and that is not followed by any errors. So that from a console point of view the update is successful. But still something is fishy here. I have raised this issue with development asked for help with troubleshooting

Thanks, is there anything I can try on the more urgent jobrun problem? Essentially we can't use the web console to update job scripts right now because of this; the host property gets screwed up and i have to use the remote control console to set the host to a real one and then back to local before the job will work correctly if it's been updated in the web console.

Some of these issues have been resolved in the latest build 3.6.6. You should get an email in a few minutes with the download link for 3.6.6, so you can try it locally and verify that it is working for you too.
