Template management does not work |
|
Hello,
because now it should officially work with the JAVA version (271) to manage templates without editing the preferences.xml manually I startet some tests.
I slightly modified an existing template (Templates/ftp_upload_using_mask.ini) and copied this to a new .ini file (ftp_upload_using_list.ini)
After that I opened the master-GUI and added a new template file. I choosed the copied .ini file in filebrowser-box and the new template now appeares in the "Sample Templates Group" tree. But....
If I try to create a new job from that template the following dialog box to enter the variables is empty. No job can be created.
And last but not least after re-starting the master the just added templates disappeared. It can no longer be seen in the template tree.
I checked the preferences.xml and can see that the template entry was added - but it simply seems to be ignored.
I tested this with a complete fresh installation (with license key).
Any idea?
Thanks in advance

Please try restarting the scheduler. If that doesn't help, please post the text of that .INI file.

You will have the same effect if you copy an original template *without* modifiying it (i.E. "cp ftp_download_using_mask.ini ftp_download_using_mask2.ini" in the "Template"-subdirectory) and then try to add a template. Choose "ftp_download_mask2.ini" and the template will appear under the template tree.
If you right-click on the new template and choose "New... -> Job from Template..." the following window were you would enter the parameters is empty.
After the restart the template vanished from the template tree (but can be found as an entry in preferences.xml).
I just tested this with a fresh new installation in a newly created directory. (Java version is JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_16)
preference.xml after fresh installtion plus the GUI-added template #26: (*not* manually modified)

So far I wasn't able to reproduce this on a Windows system. I'm going to try it again on a Linux system.
I suspect that the issue is caused by a file path, maybe use of a relative path instead of an absolute path, or something similar. The debug.log file can shed some light on the cause of the issue.
PS. I don't think you can post contents preferences.xml entirely because the support board prevents using XML and HTML contents for security reasons, but you can post a screenshot of the text in editor or post it as a text replacing "<" and ">" symbols with some other type of brackets, for example with "{" and "}"

I was able to reproduce it on a Linux system when using the Browse for File dialog. If after that I edit the preferences file in vi and replace full path with relative path as Template/file_name_here.ini the template becomes usable and the Fill-in dialog displays template prompts.
