24x7 windows version saving job db problem |
|
Hi
I run 24x7 windows version 3.4.27 as a service running under a domain service account.
When I try to save the job database through the local console, the service does not restart giving the following error
Error Restarting the 24x7 service. Access Denied!!
Across the bottom of the 24x7 console window
The odd this is that this seems to happen only the first time the jdb is saved on any given calendar day.
The service will start ok through the windows services mmc after this happens but it means I am at risk of not having the service started overnight which is very very bad.

A counter question…why don't you use local console instead of the Remote Console to make changes? If you use the Remote Console, there is no need to restart the service because the changes are pushed on-line. You can run the Remote Console locally on the server or remotely on your workstation, there is no real difference.
My guess, that there is a difference between service started by the system on startup and service started manually by user. Different user accounts have different privileged. It works when you attempt to restart the 24x7 service which you started manually, and it fails when you attempt to restart the 24x7 service which was started by the system. Does it make sense?
By the way, there is a newest version of 24x7 available.

You mean the remote control console? I can't seem to get it to work, it says synchronisation with remote 24x7 scheduler failed! Remote control interface not available.
This is when use the 'local' connection setting.

Is the "server" option enabled in the scheduler? See Tools/Options menu, Network tab settings.
If it isn't enabled, you cannot connect to the scheduler, it is not listening for connections.
If you can connect, but still get an error, you are dealing with a file locking or permissions issue. In that case copy 24x7 folder to a different location and start 24x7 Remote Console from there. To start it from the command line, use 24x7.exe /RCONTROL

I can connect to that instance using the web console ok and distributed server is on. I can use the remote console from another box to that server.
