Post RA server call fails Reply with quote
Hi
I've been using the JRA server for windows in my dev environment for a while with no probs, I've just put it in a pre-prod server and I can't get it to work?

From the scheduler I get the message when running or debugging;

Line 5: Remote access error: RECV call failed

In the log on the RA I get
14 Dec 2007 14:56:41 INFO [run]: start
14 Dec 2007 14:56:41 INFO [authenticate]: start. user = XXXXXX\XXXXXX
14 Dec 2007 14:56:41 INFO [authenticate]: end. result = User authenticated.

14 Dec 2007 14:56:41 ERROR [run]: java.lang.RuntimeException: worker.bat execute failed!
14 Dec 2007 14:56:41 INFO [run]: end

additionally sometimes it crashes the scheduler and in the RA log I see
14 Dec 2007 15:02:33 INFO [run]: start
14 Dec 2007 15:02:33 ERROR [run]: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
14 Dec 2007 15:02:33 INFO [run]: end

on the scheduler event log i get
Faulting application 24x7.exe, version 3.4.27.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x000111de.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

Please verify you are using JDK or JRE 1.4.

Also for troubleshooting purposes, edit worket.bat and add >> worker.log to the end of each line beginning with "%JAVA_HOME%\bin text. This way you can get additional command output written to worker.log file which you can use to figure what fails during worker.bat file run that causes the entire job to fail and/or abort prematurely.

The JRE version is
j2re-1_4_2_14-windows-i586-p.exe

I'm not attached to it, but it was working on the dev box with this one.

I've tried adding the pipe to each line in worker.bat, there is a worker.log produced but it has nothing in it.

That's good to know. That means that worker.bat is running. The job user authenticates ok too. So I guess, that the job fails to launch the command you have specified for the job. It finds the specified executable file, but that file returns a non-zero exit code.

If this is an executable file like .EXE or some kind of a script file, please try to wrap it into a batch file with output sent to some log and schedule the wrapper BAT file.

PS. You can undo now worker.log changes.

Ok, I've figured it out. the problem was that the java_home environment variable was created using the setx utility from MS but it didn't have the /M switch that makes it work globally rather than for the current profile, which was not the service account.

Interestingly enough the service appears to start fine without java_home defined under the running account if it existed under the installing account at the time.

I think the service either starts under a different user account which has different environment settings as compared to jobs, or there are multiple versions of java installed with java_home set for different accounts.
