Post RunAs Reply with quote

I can't run a program with your RunAs utility. I've granted all rights that where necessary but it doesn't work.

It sais that "A required privelege is not held by client". What does this mean?

The account used for the scheduler must have "Act as

operating system", not the job user account.

The job user account must have "logon as a batch job" privilege.

Please also note that if you use domain accounts then you should change privileges in the Active directory as they override user privileges. If you use local accounts then you should use Local Policies applet to modify user's rights.

Account from which I am running RunAs.exe has "Act as operating system" privilege,

account that is passed to the program as command line parameters has "logon as a batch job" privilege.

I have assigned these rights from Local Policies applet. So what is wrong?

Just to make sure, when you specify account name for the job you enter it as .\user right? This is to indicate you want to use your local account not domain account.

By the way, if you want to try running it in interactive mode you can use this program http://softtreetech.com/24x7/archive/53.htm This may print additional messages to the screen that will help you identify which account is not setup propery.

I was wondering if you have fingured out the issue. I was searching for a "runas" utility that could pass the password of the user and this seems great.

What I have run, after setting up the authenticated user and the program running account is that, depending on the file I get an error message saying that "Error #2: The system cannot find the file specified." OR it will give me anoteher RunAs myst "Act as part of the operating system" error message.

The path is a local path and availble to all users. In fact testing, the "running" account is part of the admin group. Other files that are also local (for exampe c:\Util\programname.exe) just gives the system rights error

It seems a great utility though, thanks : )

The first type of error occurs when the file name or path has spaces and you forget to enclose it in double quotes.

The second error type is security related, as the error message states you don't have "act as part of the operation system permissions" If you are an admin, don't assume that your account has all possible permissions. Certain permissions are not given to anybody, by default and "act as ..." is one of them. Give yourself the required permissions using the Active Directory or Local Security Policy tools depending on your logon type.
