Post Remotecopysettings Reply with quote

I seem to be having trouble getting this to work at all.

I would like to copy all my remote scripts to my remote agent(AGENT1) from my main scheduler..

I set up a job, running LOCALLY (the main scheduler) with the following :

RemoteCopySettings( "AGENT1", "SCRIPT LIBRARY")

Agent1 is properly set up in my agents profile, and I have jobs that sucessfully run on that agent. When this script is run, it reports success, but i do not see the remote scripts listed in the job database.

Running with the "" (all options) copies the remote agents, holidays, etc .. everything BUT the remote scripts.

Any ideas on what i can try ?

Try turning the tracing option on in Tools/Options menu, on the Log page; restart 24x7 then re-run the job. Check what you get in the trace. If there are indications of any problems during the copy process.

I see it invoke all the proper classes including uf_updatelibrary(LRO)

it seems to run with no errors, and the save is good. Everything is updated.. just not the remote scripts.

*should* i be able to see them if i open a scheduler on the same box as the remote agent ?

here is something else. If i have the remote agent running as just an agent, nothing in the remote scripts gets updated.

When I quit the agent, and start a scheduler instance on the box, i get the remote scripts updated.

Is this what i need to do each time? How useful would this be if i couldn't push changes as needed, instead of opening up a scheduler instance each time?

You just need to run it as a scheduler in server mode - "server" mode option enabled on the Network tab in options.
When running in agent mode it, doesn't load script libary into memory and that's why it doesn't get updated.

Then how is this function / method useful at all? i assumed that this was the established way to update remote agents with the proper holidays, etc, and if i need to go into each box and start a scheduler instance, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a remote agent in the first place?

If it is not loaded to memory, then where is it loading it ? The agent does use the remote scripts, as I get a error if the script is not present.

It does update holidays and script libary but on disk. It is just in agent you cannot see script libary entries if you go to the Tools/Options menu.

By the way, when you run the scheduler in server mode it superseeds agent mode, it cann do all agent mode can do and more...

The agents read them from the disk when they need.

"agent" mode is a slimmed down mode of the scheduler with certain functions turned off. For more info please see the Overview topic in the on-line help.

On the other hand, if you don't want to run it in an agent mode you don't have to. You can always run it in a master scheduler mode but not running local jobs.
