Post Logon.exe Reply with quote

Hello, has the problem with running this(Logon.exe) and
getting it to actually populate the password field on a Windows
2000 Server been fixed? Please let me know if there
is something special that I have to do to get this to
work. Right now it will go to the user entry field but
it will not populate the password field. Is there a
trick to this or something in the registry that is not
allowing this to happen? I appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Ace Williams

I don't think there the problem is in logon.exe. I suspect you either have terminal server running or simply doing something wrong.

Check c:\logon.log file for error messages describing which part of the logon process failed.

Also please check http://www.softtreetech.com/24x7/archive/51.htm and make sure you exactly follow instructions provided on that page.

There is nothing on this page that says what I can run and what I can't run?
Am I missing something? Where is the page that says I cannot run terminal server?
What else can't I run while using this?

I tried with Terminal Services disabled and I get the same results. I tried it from a
batch file and scheduling just the command itself to run and it never will enter the
password. What else has to be disabled to run this?

The terminal services change behavior of the standard Windows "Winlogon" Desktop as a result the keystrokes emulated by Logon.exe are missed because they are sent to a different "Desktop", not the one displayed on the screen.
The described solution: disable terminal server and restart your computer.

For more background info see http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/termserv/termserv/terminal_services_sessions.asp

: Below is paragraph from the Logon.exe page

: "The 24x7 Scheduler must run as a Windows service using LocalSystem or
: domain admin account and the service must be set to start
: automatically."

: The reason for that is needed access to the Logon Desktop. Logon screen is
: run on a separate virtual dekstop and because of that regular programs
: cannot access it.

: Hi,

: 1. I setup 24x7 scheduler to run the logon.exe using

: the run program feature.

: 2. I entered the command inthe command line text

: box: c:\logon.exe -p "MyDesktopPW"

: 3. I locked my desktop using ctl-alt-delete.

: 4. I waited and I heard a beep.

: 5. The Logon screen was displayed, but the password

: was not entered in the password field.

: I tried setting up the sendkeys option: {SHIFT}Mypassword{ENTER}

: and this did not work either.

: What did I miss?

: Thanks Vic
