Post Job Disabled Reply with quote

Hello,
I have several JAL scripts, some to be run more than once per day, and others to be run weekly or monthly.
I have noticed a strange behaviour with scripts to be run all the day.
If the lines of the script are more than about 950, the script is disabled at the first save of the job database.
The log says: "Job definition error: invalid job day time range (less then job recursion interval). Job disabled."
This is correct, because in the advanced tab of the Job Properties Wizard (step 6 of 10), the start time and the end time are identical (12:00:00 AM), even if I did not change the end from the default values.
If I manually change again the end value to the default value (11:59:59 PM), it is ok, I save the job and the job itself is enabled.
But when I shut down 24x7 and reboot it, surprise! The job is disabled and the scheduling properties are not the ones I saved.

It is a bug, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Angelo

My guess, some of your scripts are over 32K long and a result the script spills over to other job properties causing various problems. I believe the problem has been fixed in 3.4.24 and later. In any case, the best way to deal with this problem is to shorten the script. There are several ways to do that. You can, for example, move some common code to user-defined statements and then from the job script call such statements with parameters. You can also split the job logic into "pre", "main" and "post" steps and move pre or post steps or both to the job notification action script. You can also split the job itself into smaller jobs (steps) and chain them together using job dependencies on "on job finish" notification with "run job" action. You can also move the entire script or only some parts to files stored outside of the job database files and in the job script refer to these files using @SCRIPT tag. For details please see @SCRIPT tag description in the on-line help.

Another question: can I freely upgrade my 3 licenses of 24x7 3.4.22 to the newest release? Or it is necessary some fees?

Thanks,
Angelo

Sure. All upgrades for the same major version are always free.

Please keep in mind that if you upgrade before you fix the script size issues you may loose parts of your scripts that exceed the 32K limit.
