Post Problem with SNMP agent Reply with quote

Hello!

A couple of posts below I asked about the 24x7 SNMP Agent. I managed to get it working on a windows 2000 professional, and all is fine there. The problem is that when I want to run the same job on a server with win 2000 server as OS, the job fails and says that it cannot open trap event because SNMP service is not running, even though it is. I've reinstalled the operating system and reinstalled 24x7, but the problem persists. Could it have something to do with the fact that the machine that the problem is occuring on runs 2000 server and not professional? It's the only obvious thing I can see anyway...

The 24x7 SNMP Extension agent starts fine according to the Application log in the Event viewer, as does the windows built-in SNMP service. Any suggestions on what can be wrong?

Thanks!

This is known issue. I think you need to install W2K service pack. In brief on your W2K server SNMP server is already used by some application and it fails to work with other applications incorrectly reporting that it is not running.

Also check put the following MS article

I meant service pack 2 or later.

OK, it is all up and running now! The problem seemed to be that the windows SNMP service must be run as the same user that runs 24x7. By default the windows SNMP service is run by the LocalSystem Administrator account, and after changing that so the service was run by my network administrator account (which 24x7 is running on) instead, 24x7 could find the SNMP service.

Thanks for Your help!
