Post Question about Feature Reply with quote

Hi,

1. When I have started scheduler as service with normal mode, it started with no problem and I can access this service with remote control.

But my problem is that the remote control cannot give any job forcast to me, it shown only the date but have no job in it in job forcasting report (I have scheduled job and I known they are running periodically within the report date range). It cannot shown the time for 'Next Run' in the remote control, and the clock at the status bar show it is 'Off'

Is there any method to make it to show next running time.

2. If I repeat the same scenario but using standard GUI instead of remote control, it said that 'disable timer in this instance' and everything are the same as previous case. What does it mean ?
Also, what is the usual setup for the case that 3 servers need to run scheduled job and I need to control all them from one of this server. All of them should be run as service.

3. What is standalone version of 24x7 scheduler ?

Regards,
Sunny

: control, and the clock at the status bar show it is 'Off'

As noted in the footer of this report, only jobs with greater than 15 minutes time interval are shown on the report. This is to avoid long, many pages reports, you would know about such jobs anyway. The detail view does not display job next start time because the scheduling engine is disabled in the Remote Control as it does not run jobs and so it does not calculate job timing characteristics. Same applies to the blue count-down clock on the bottom of the Remote Control window. Just for your information double-click or right-click on the count-down clock in the Remote Control and in the Scheduler to see the difference.

: Is there any method to make it to show next running time.
No, see below. You should use the Job Forecast Report

: 2. If I repeat the same scenario but using standard GUI instead of remote

Same as above

: of them should be run as service.

You would need to run one 24x7 Scheduler in either standalone (non-master) or master mode and create all jobs on the that computers. Install 24x7 Remote agents on other 2 computers and add their profiles on the first computer.
For jobs that should be run on other computers, in the jobs properties select names of the appropriate remote agents. This will allow you to schedule, manage and monitor all jobs on a single computer but have them run where it is needed for you.

Both scheduler and agents can run as Windows NT/2000 services, see Tools/Options menu Service options.

: 3. What is standalone version of 24x7 scheduler ?

This is not a version, but a run-time mode, in which 24x7 does not run as a master or as an agent (networked server features disabled), in other words not as an application server.

I found that the standalone scheduler means start scheduler with NOTIMER option, is it true ?

No, it is a different thing. The 24x7 scheduler can run and behave as a full-blown application server used for distributed job processing. In that mode it supposed to contact or be contacted by other 24x7 schedulers, 24x7 remote agents and/or 24x7 remote controls. In distributed server mode it can be configured to start as an active scheduler with the scheduling engine enabled and being able to serve incoming requests (this is what we call the Master scheduler mode) or start in a passive mode with the scheduling engine disabled but still being able to serve incoming requests (this mode we call 24x7 Remote Agent)

What we call a standalone mode is the mode in which such features for distributed networked computing are disabled and the 24x7 scheduler simply runs the scheduled job locally.

"/NOTIMER" command line option is used purely for the troubleshooting when you want to start the scheduler and make sure it does not run any jobs "on startup" and in other events. You can use it temporarily, to start 24x7, fix some problems then restart 24x7 without that option.
