Post random reboot Reply with quote

24x7 is running minimized on a computer. If it sits idle and I launch an app or sometimes just move the mouse the computer will reboot itself. After about a week it will reboot itself and give the blue screen of death? I formatted the hard drive and started from scratch. I ran the computer without 24x7 and didn't reboot. I re-installed 24x7 and it started re-booting itself randomly (about 3 times a day) while using the computer. Do I need to run this as a service?
I am running Windows 2000 pro. Help a brother out...

Are you still using the Examples Jobs.dat schedule file by any chance?

That file has a job that demonstrates how to programatically reboot the computer.

Any errors reported in the 24x7 job logs?
Any relevant messages in WinNT system and application event logs?
Why do you think that 24x7 is rebooting your system and not some other problems cause it?
Which OS version do you use?

1. No errors on the job log

2. event log shows save dump with the following:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000024 (0x00190256, 0xbebbd1ac, 0xbebbce04, 0x8045a80c). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini053101-01.dmp.

3. I have tried 24x7 on 4 computers and all reboot without warning

4. Windows 2000 pro

Why do you think it is 24x7 and not the job that you run?

In general this error indicates a bug either in W2K or one of the device drivers

Here is the link to Microsoft support document Q192463 that describes what to do in such cases. Check it out (the link is below)

Also check again what your jobs do, especialy check disk and network operations.
