Post MemoryFreeGet Reply with quote

When I try running MemoryFreeGet, it returns the value of 1934848000 bytes, which equates to around 1845MB. I am running this on a machine with 256MB of Physical memory and a 139MB pagefile. Where is 24x7 getting this number? I am running 24x7 v2.4.11 on Windows NT4 (SP5). Task Manager claims there is 214MB free.

Thanks
Greig

This is the amount of free virtual memory. This is what matters, not the amount of free physical memory.

Yes, I know. But look at the figures - it is telling me that there is 1.8GB free when I only have around 400MB of Virtual Memory

Where do you get this number 400MB (sum of physical + swap file)? What number do you have in the about box of the Windows Explorer?

Yes, 400MB is the physical plus swap.

The About box claims there is a physical amount of 261,492KB. It does not give a number for virtual memory. However Task Manager gives a figure of 409,356KB with 187,0264KB used.

Below is the trace from the Job.

JAL 1: DIM
JAL 1: Executing DIM("BYTES", "NUMBER")
JAL 2: DIM
JAL 2: Executing DIM("MBYTES", "NUMBER")
JAL 3: DIM
JAL 3: Executing DIM("LOWOFMEMORY", "BOOLEAN")
JAL 6: MEMORYGETFREE
JAL 6: Executing MEMORYGETFREE("0")
JAL Return "1953353728"

I configured my system to match yours and got the same number. I guess the number for free memory is incorrect. I will continue searching for what can be causing this problem.

It appears that the number is changing, but the value is bogus on WinNT/200 systems. It supposed to be the valus for "AVAILABLE FREE VIRTUAL MEMORY", I don't know where the heck, Windows get that number over 1GB. I've added a change request to calculate this memory as a sum of free physical + free page file space that looks like a more reasonable number. This change should be made in the next version.
