[13.0.56 Pro] - Q: Auto Connect |
|
What happened to Auto Connect? I no longer see the checkbox in the Connection dialogs. It's still there in the Options:
but it cannot be set to anything other than 'None'.

I think the plan is to eventually depricate that very old feature. It's superceded by Restore Tabs, which connect automatically.
I can't explain the inconsistency or why it's hidden for you in the Connections dialog. Have you tried resizing it?

I haven't tried resizing it until now but it did not fix it. Anyway, good plan to get rid of it. I never was a fan of auto-connect. Working with many servers (sometimes simultaneously) it sometimes pointed to the server I did not want to work with right then and I had to reconnect.
Restore Tabs is great for, well, restoring tabs, but it isn't really a replacement, as it's about existing/past tabs rather than creating blank new ones. What I liked most so far was several versions back when opening a new tab from an already connected tab automatically connected to the same server. This allowed me to create a new tab connected to the same server quickly. If I already had an existing tab to my target server I could simply activate it, hit Ctrl+N and I was good. And in case I needed to connect to another server, without an existing tab, I would need the connection dialog anyway (which also lacks a hotkey, by the way). That feature was removed long ago but was superseded recently by the Clone Tab feature which is pretty good but sadly also does not have a hotkey, and the contents sometimes are not very useful so I have to clear them first.
My dream setup would be three sub-features (with hotkeys):
- one that would open a new tab with the connection dialog. Ctrl+N already does that but the hotkey cannot be reconfigured.
- one that would clone the current tab with the connection AND the contents. Clone Tab does that but has no hotkey, neither configurable nor otherwise.
- one that would only clone the connection of the current tab in a new tab and purge the contents. Clone Tab + Ctrl+A + Delete does this but is rather slow.
