Post Drag'n'Drop file in SSMS = SQL Assistant disabled Reply with quote
Hello,

Each time I drag'n'drop a file into SSMS, SQL Assistant turns off.
I have to reactivate it , menu SQL Assistant > Refresh Cache.

How to avoid this behavior?

What is your file extension? Is it .SQL, .DDL, or something else? If it's something else or the add-on is unable for some reasons to get file extension. it will suspend itself as not to interfere with editing non SQL files.

That's for all .SQL files.

Sorry, I overlooked your response. I'm guessing it's unable to obtain file name or cannot find its extension for some reason. May I ask you for two things?
1. share an example of a complete file name with full path, that's for us to see if something in the name or path is not be recognized correctly,
2. and attach a small screenshot of a tab in SSMS after dragging the file onto it so we can see what exactly appears in the tab caption.

Thank you. This looks fine to me, I tested on my end, and it appears the same. Yet, when I drag-and-drop files, the add-on is enabled and active in them.

Do you have any values in the Document Manager settings for the file mask.

No value, same as your print-screen.

When you drop a file, does SSMS open database connection in the new tab automatically, or you get prompted because it wants you to enter password or something?

No.
I already have a connection and an open tab.
I just drag'n'drop a *.sql file, that's open a new tab, without prompt.

Two more questions if I may. Does SQL Assistant work in SSMS if you close the system tray app? Does SQL Assistant ever prompt you for a database connection, when you resume it or otherwise?

1. Yes, SQL Assistant continues to work if I close the system tray
2. No, I don't have a prompt if I already have a tab/sheet in SSMS. The new tab is connected with the same on which I drop the file.

I'm discussing this issue with the development team. Will get back to you once I have additional instructions.

Hi,

I found an interesting thing :

- When I drag'n'drop a .SQL file from Windows Explorer, it works, SA is not disabled
- When I drag'n'drop form a third party (i.e. Total Commander), it doesn't work, SA is disabled

Hope this helps.
