Data generation |
|
What is Column Associations for in SQL Assistant - Options > Data Generator? I've found nothing about that in the user's guide.
I'd expected that the data generator used the Column Association settings so if it found a column that, for example, contained "name" in its name, it would automatically associate the item that used the Column Name Match Rule: Contain and Column Name Match Text: name, and thus set its Value Type to library data and choose the corresponding Lookup Column from that library file.
But that didn't happen. Instead, it left everything at its default settings (sequence?), and I had to manually configure the column associations in the Test Data Generator dialog.

You are right. Presently it only does the first step, column name matching, but not smart enough to associate related columns. There is a planned feature update to make the data generator smarter and make it identify table scope matches, rather then single column scope matches. I don't know when it will be available, but it's in the queue. Also it should be able to figure out correct data generation order automatically, and start with lookup tables first before touching tables with foreign keys. For now selecting correct order often requires manual input.

Oh, okay. I'll wait before posting feature requests for this one. Meanwhile, let me ask for another one, but in a separated topic, here.
