[9.2.346 Pro] - Object hints taking long time to popup |
|
Timed hints (when only hovering over the object) take large amount of time to pop up. Immediate hints (using Ctrl + hover) will take some time (sometimes seconds) if they pop up at all, predominantly there's only the windows Notification sound playing and no pop up or any kind of info/warning/error message is shown at all. This happens on both MySQL and SQL Server connections.

To the best of my knowledge there are no functional changes in that function. I'm going to submit a ticket for investigation of side effects from other changes. Thank you very much for letting us know.about this issue.

That was quite disturbing. It did not pop up an exception dialog as had before, it put a notification onto the Action Center but without showing it actually. I had to click on the notification item to get the exception dialog. Put some contents into it and submitted the error report.

I played for some time with both MySQL and SQL Server connections and on my test systems mouse-over hints appear within 1 to 2 seconds. However, when I open a fresh editor connected to a fairly large database with many tables and columns, it may take a while for the first hint to appear, sometimes as long as 10 seconds. I assume internally it loads the cache from the database data dictionary. But once the cache is loaded, it works very fast.
Could it be possible that something else is factoring in? Do you see your regular database queries running with typical speed or they seem to be slow too?

Other queries run fine. The initial delay is normal, I guess, but subsequent ones were lightning fast on 9.1. Now they definitely take longer. But what's really disturbing is that I was accustomed to getting the results for Ctrl+Hover almost instantly. Now I get an exception instead after a few seconds during which time SE seems to be frozen. It also interferes with Ctrl+clicking tables/views for a quick peek of their contents.
I restored factory default. It's still happening.
I've sent an error report with the following description:
 |
 |
Ctrl + Hovering over a table on a MySQL Connection throws an exception.

It got issue tracking number 31746. Maybe it will prove useful.

This issue is extremely frustrating. Triggers every time I press Ctrl and the cursor is over something that could be queried for information, which happens to be most of the times, making copy-pasting a real pain in the back.

I'm very sorry. I can actually reproduce that one on one of my systems. We are waiting for a fix for that bug.

Yeah there is something odd going on there, my ctrl+hover hints rarely if ever pop up.. it takes less time to just hover and get the popup now.

Do you get exceptions and temporary freezes as well?

Temporary freezes with control held but no exceptions.

Does this happen with SQL Server connections only?
Do you use custom version of "Object Info (MSSQL)" or an old version from 9.1?

It happens on both SQL Server and MySQL, with factory defaults restored.
