Post Formatting ":=" in Notepad++ Reply with quote
I posted a bug report several weeks or months ago complaining about formatting compound operators (+=, -=, /=, etc.) in SSMS. They were split, with a surplus space in between (+ =, - =, / =, etc.)

I'm experiencing something similar in Toad for MySQL and Notepad++, this time ":=" is affected. After formatting it becomes ": =".

By the way, I couldn't find that post using Search. Are the operators in the search field ignored? Is there an escape key for that?

As a temporary workaround please change "operator spacing" option to Compact, or to Don't Modify.

I'm searching for more details on this issue.

It appears that := is supposed to be not recognized as a valid operator, just like +=., and yet it's not always recognized as such. We are looking into this issue, trying to fix it before 6.4 release

Sounds like you and I probably drive the poor devs crazy with bug reports.

That's good. I just know some other devs for other tools that haven't been so gracious about multiple bug reports. I get it though, nobody wants to hear that things aren't perfect.

Well, we all know there is no such thing as a bug free software. And the number of potential bugs increases with complexity and sophistication of the product, number of platforms supported, third party product dependencies, etc...:-)
And we accept the fact that our software isn't an exception to that rule. However, we are totally committed to fixing all known bugs and we strive to fix them as quickly as possible.

I've been doing this for quite a long time now and I must say they proved to be durable :) And responsive as well. By the way, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's always complaining about something ;)
