SQL Assistant causing SSMS to crash. |
|
SSMS was crashing that was causing the following errors...
SSMS- SQL Server Management Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close AppName: ssms.exe AppVer: 2009.100.1600.1 AppStamp:4bb679e7 ModName: sqlassistprefs.dll ModVer: 4.0.30.0 ModStamp:49089f30 fDebug: 0 Offset: 00001dcb
System.AccessViolationException was unhandled Message: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
Description: * EventType clr20r3, P1 ssms.exe, P2 2009.100.1600.1, P3 4bb679e7, P4 system.windows.forms, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4d8c1dde, P7 16cd, P8 0, P9 system.accessviolationexception, P10 NIL.
After ensuring everything had the latest updates, it was suggested to disable any third party intellisense apps.
I removed SQL Assistant 4.0 and the problem went away. Is there a remedy for this issue because I've been using SQL Assistant for 4 years without any problem. Does it become corrupt over time? Do I need to upgrade?
•Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 10.50.2500.0 Microsoft Data
•Access Components (MDAC) 3.85.1132
•Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0

•Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.3625
•Operating System 5.1.2600

SQL Assistant version 4 is very old and is not supported for more than a year, no updates have been released for that version for a long time and there is no guarantee it is compatible with latest SSMS version and/or Window updates. Please upgrade to a more recent version.
