Post RunAs clarification Reply with quote
Hi all,

For some reason the brain isn't working and i can't get runas to function.
I keep getting Error #1314 loading user profile! Error ignored.

Windows XP media center edition
I have 2 user accounts
Owner = admin rights
User = limited

I tried assigning Owner the local rights (act as part of os, create token, & logon as batch job)
Rebooted

Logged in as User and tried to open notepad.
runas .\owner password /V notepad.exe
#1314 error.

Logged in as owner
Removed the rights from owner and gave them to user.
Rebooted.
Same problem.

what am i doing wrong? which user needs to have the local rights? different combination?
thanks

'Cannot load profile' error typically indicates that the user cannot access part of the registry (under HKEY_USERS) where the info for other user is stored.

That would make sense because i'm trying to run "runas" as a limited user.

What i'm trying to do is run a spybot batch file that will update and run a scan.
The user account is limited and can't do it, so i'm trying to RUNAS the owner account that is the admin.

So what i'm guessing is that RUNAS won't work for this?

Not necessarily. You may need to fix some privileges available to the 'owner' user so that it can login as a batch job and run processes in non-interactive mode. It is hard to say from here which privileges should be fixed as very little is known about the current user setup.
