How does 24/7 Scheduler send out notification emails?

I am evaluating the trial version of the 24x7 Automation Suite. This might be a silly question but I am wondering how the 24/7 scheduler sends out the notification email when a job is finished. When I set up a job, I did not set up an SMTP server. Instead, I just put the destination email and everything went through OK.

I'm wondering what the mechanism behind the scene the 24x7 scheduler uses to send out emails without the SMTP server being set up. I'm running the scheduler on SunOS 5.8.

The 24x7 Scheduler Multi-platform Edition by default attempts to use local email server, in case email server name is not specified in the scheduler settings..

By the way, if you check email headers for the message you received, you should see from where it came from.
