Database load error |
|
Hi,
I received an error today when my server did a scheduled reboot saying that the job database was already in use (which it wasnt). The problem is that the error message box required a click of the OK button but because my servers are left locked away I did not know that 24x7 was not running because I use a external process monitor to ensure that the application is running in case 24x7 crashes but the software was running it just got an error on screen. Can I suggest a future enhancement so that when any error that pops up on the screen that requires attention an email should be sent to the 24x7 administrator notifying them that action is required otherwise it may be several hours or days before anyone is aware that something is wrong.
Thanks
Nathan

Hi,
The file in use error is reported when the internal operation for "open file for reading" fails. This is a critical error. If the scheduler is running in GUI mode, the error message appears on the screen. If the scheduler is running in service mode, the error goes to the log file and no interactive message box is displayed. Yet, in both cases the scheduler is non-operational.
One possible way to monitor for this issue is to set 24x7 to run as a service; enable logging to Windows Event Logs, add an automated email notification for this specific event log entry and have Windows alert you when this type of error occurs. You would need to reproduce the error to see it in the event logs. It is also possible to avoid messing with Windows Event Logs and alerts by having another scheduler instance running on a different machine to periodically ping the other scheduler using AgentTest or PingPort JAL commands and alert you when that scheduler is not responsive.
