Post Urgent help needed! Reply with quote
I have a paid for version of 24x7 which is running fine but this morning my applications that talk to it via the API are coming back and saying the evaluation period has expired. I have put the licence key in the password field as documented in the manual which has worked fine for over 3 weeks and has failed this morning. I purchased my full version on the 30 Jan 2009.

I really need help with this as my whole business is reliant on 24x7. Thanks.

Hi,

Just to clear the issue. Every application talking to 24x7 server, whether locally or remotely is considered to be a client application using an instance of 24x7 of code to talk to the server. As such it requires a separate license. The license key of the server and each client must be different. The COM API reads license key from the system registry, Java API requires passing it via last parameter in OpenSession( ) call.

I guess that without the key, for the first 30-days a client application is considered to be in trial mode and it works ok, but then it stops. For COM clients, the license key is looked up in the registry of the client system during OpenSession( ) call. The license key is saved in the registry by the 24x7 COM API installation program or the main setup (depending on the version of COM client installed/used), or it could be also saved manually in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\4.0\RC_COM\Serial. Additional 24x7 licenses can be purchased on-lin ay any time. The license fee is flat for every 24x7 installation or use and the same for servers, agents, and clients.

Regards,

I am a little confused by this. I have (presently) a single server running 24x7. Every hour it runs 3 exe files written in VB that talk to the 24x7 via COM. Are you saying that I need a licence for the VB applications? I assume I can use the same licence number in each of the 3 exe files and not have to have 3 licences plus the main 24x7 licence.

What is the product code or link to what I need to purhcase for the COM interface?

If at a later date I add another 2 24x7 servers (so I have 3) can I use the same COM licence even though I will have one server running as a Master and the other two as Slaves?

Thanks

I'm sorry for this confusion. You have several different things installed on the same machine among them, 24x7 Scheduler (server), agent components and the client components. Accidentally you are using them all locally on the same system so it looks like you are running just 1 thing, while you are not. The client component requires its own license, which it needs to establish a successful connection to the server (that connection could be local or remote, which makes no difference.

If you are looking to save on cost and know you are only going to run everything locally, only local applications using remote control interface, you can make them use a different type of the API, for example JDL files or local DDE.

So if you are ready to switch to DDE or JDL interface, please provide an example of your VB code, using COM so I can suggest how to convert that to DDE or JDL.

I am trying to keep cost down but not at the expense of future expansion. I imagine within 3 months looking to purchase a 2 remote agents so that I can set up my current server as a Master and have the two remote agents as slaves. I understand I will need to by licences for each of these remote agents.

I will need the VB apps to be able to run on the Master and the Slaves. I have one app that creates 10-20 dynamic jobs in a queue. Each job currently runs one after the other but my plan with the Master and two slaves is that the dynamic jobs would in effect run 3 jobs at the same time.

In addition a 3rd VB app is run after all of the dynamic jobs are completed to tidy things up. I have already coded the logic in this app to ensure that all the dynamic jobs have completed before it runs and this works very well.

So at the present time I have one 24x7 Automation Suite licence. If I understand you correctly I will need to buy a single client licence for my VB apps and when I look to add the slaves in future I guess I will need to buy a remote agent licence and a client licence for that server.

Can you confirm that my understand is correct and if so can you tell me which product I need to buy now to be able to use my VB client apps on my one server under Windows as this is not clear in your purchase page.

Thanks

Yes, you are correct. I suggest to send an inquire to salesATsofttreetech.com and check if you can get a volume discount.

Thanks for your help. I emailed your sales team some hours ago and havent heard anything back from them. My service is currently down because none of my apps are working because of the tight integration with 24x7. I had a delivery receipt back from a bbain but have not heard anything more. Please could I ask if you could maybe talk to the person and explain my urgency. Thanks again for all your help and quick response.

Thank you, I have sent an email to the support email address.

I am happy to purchase a licence for the 24x7 client to use with the COM API but do not know which product code to purchase in your list on the purchase page. I need the version that runs on Windows 2003 server. I already have 24x7 Automation Suite for Windows. If someone can provide me with the product code or URL to the correct product page then I will place an order.

Thanks again.
