Windows service not working in 4.2 |
|
Hi,
I've just upgraded from 24x7 Multi-Platform Edition 4.1.273 to 4.2 278 (Windows XP Pro).
The GUI interface is running fine but not the service. I normally leave the service running (so it can continue when I log off), then stop it and start the GUI when editing the job database.
The service seems to start OK through the Windows Services control, though when entering 24x7srv at the command line I receive:
Unable to start the 24x7 Scheduler service. StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed - The service process could not connect to the service controller.
I've tried removing (/remove) and re-installing (/install) the service but same problem.
Help appreciated.

Did you install it into the same folder? That's where the service is looking for it.
Does the JAVA_HOME system environment variable point to JRE 1.5 home directory? Note that 1.4 was required for 4.1, 1.5 is required for 4.2

I ran the install/uninstall from the 24x7_Scheduler directory. The entry in Services is pointing to C:\Program Files\24x7_Scheduler\24x7srv.exe
JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06

Please edit preferences.xml file and locate property with traceEnabled name. Set the value in this line to "true". Start the service. Check what you get in debug.log file. All referenced files can be found in the 24x7 home directory.
The modified line in preferences.xml should look like the following
<property>

This is weird—it's working now (debug output seemed OK so I took another look and the service was OK). Oh well, thanks for the quick response.
