Would like to send notifications via email about
job progress.

We are currently using exchange servers and using
MS-Outlook as our email software.

How do I setup 24x7 to do this?

I already went into Tools/Options/General and setup
the SMTP server information but not emails go out
when jobs starts and ends.

Did you actually set in the job properties to email on start/finish/error/etc..?
Did you complete the email settings (acount/recipients/etc...) in the job properties?
Did you check the job log for any processing errors?

Yes, I did set the job properties to email on different events (start/finish/error/etc)
Yes, I completed the email settings (account/recipients/etc...)
Yes, I checked the log for errors: no errors except the one that says that email failed.

It says:
"Notification Action Failed: Sending mail failed: Logon Failed!"

You have specified incorrect MAPI profile name or incorrect password. This stops 24x7 from loging to your email client software (MS Outlook, etc...) and sending email message.
