How do you install just the remote agent on a server? I am new to this so please be descriptive.

I assume you are asking about 24x7 Remote Agent for Windows (part of 24x7 Automation Suite).
The answer is 24x7 Remote Agent is not a separate software piece. It is a run-time mode. To "install" the agent, install 24x7 Automation Suite then start the agent using 24x7 Remote Agent shortcut in the Windows start menu (you can copy it to the Startup folder if you want it to start automatically) or you can configure 24x7 Scheduler to run as a service in the agent mode. For the latest option start 24x7 Scheduler manually, click Tools/Options menu. Check service mode and check agent option. close the scheduler and restart your computer or start the service manually from the Services applet in the Windows Control Panel.

In case if you asking about other agents (such as 24x7 RA Servers for Unix, 24x7 Scheduler Java in agent mode, etc...) please describe in detail what you are trying to do.

That is correct for the scheduler but what about just the agent. If I want to set up a master server and have 5 agents being managed how do I configure the agent machines. How do I install just the agent component. I dont see an option in the install program to point it to a master server

As I said, agent is not a component, it is a run-time mode. Here is what you need to do
1. On "agent" computers install 24x7 Automation Suite software.
2. Start 24x7 Remote Agent (see previous message for details)
3. On the master scheduler computer start 24x7 Scheduler. Use Tools/Remote agent Profiles menu to create 5 profiles one for each agent. In profile properties enter IP address or computer name of the agent computer.
4. When scheduling new job or modifying an existing job in the job properties select which agent you want to run this job, or select [Least Busy] if any agent can run it. For local jobs leave this property as Local.
