Post Automatic Restart Reply with quote

Hello,

I have a Scheduler workstation that has Windows XP Professional installed.
I have installed 24x7 Automation Suite on the workstation..

If there is a power outage and my workstation is shutdown,

Is there a way to automatically reboot the computer,
sign-on to the network and restart 24x7?

Thanks Vic

The best way to deal with such issues is to use an UPS unit.
UPS units for workstations and small servers are available for as little as $50.

Take a look for example at http://www.apcc.com/tools/ups_selector/index.cfm

Vic:

This is how I handle this:

1. Check out http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/13

for info on how to configure your system to auto-logon.

2. Put a shortcut to 24x7.exe into the startup folder of

the user you want to logon as.

3. Once you reboot, your machine should automatically

logon as the specified user, and start 24x7.

NOTE HOWEVER: This stores the userid and password into
your registry, which is an inherently insecure thing to
do. Whether you use this technique should be balanced
with the security risks involved.

Good tip. Please also take a look at alternative methods described in

Thanks Guys for the help...

I changed all the settings and the system rebooted
nicely ...

except for:

a prompt window that pops up asking us to read an
unauthorized access message that our security
group put into our network signon script.

Thanks Vic

Hi SYSOP,

I have done some more research on the autologon and
I have written two VBscripts, the first one activates
the auto logon settings and the second that disables
the auto logon settings.

If I create two 24x7 VBScript jobs can I issue the
REBOOT command from inside the scripts or does it
have to be inside a JAL script?

I don't see any reason why you cannot do it from VBScript. If you meean calling JAL's reboot command you can call it from VBScript using cross-language call method as in example below

JALScript.Execute("Reboot")
