Post E-Mail notification Reply with quote

I get the message Notification Failed: Error: Not a socket, trying to use 24x7 to send SMTP email from one of our servers. E-mail works just fine from other servers. Anyone have a cluse as to what is causing this?

It cannot make network connection to your email server. Another network segment? or DNC name not in the database?
Try specifying email server IP address in Tools/Options instead of the machine name

I am using ip address in the tools\options. It's always been set up that way.

Still "not a socket" error means that a connection to the email server cannot be established. The server is "not seen" from that computer. May be you have a firewall or some other similar issue.

Was just informed that they are blocking SMTP from that segment of our network. I want to be able to tell them how to configure it so that only SMTP from 24x7 will be allowed from that segment. Is there a way to configure that?

I am not sure if it is possible to unblock a particular program. It should be possible to allow pass through for a particular machine for a specific port such as 25 for SMTP.

BTW in 24x7 you can use non-default SMTP port number. May be you can somehow configure your email server to also listen on a non-default port or somehow forward from that port to default SMTP port?
