I want to copy some of my jobs so that I can run them on a test server - is there an easy way of doing this or do I have to copy & paste the JAL text or even recreate the non-JAL jobs by hand ?

The easiest way is to copy your job database file .DAT and use File/Open menu in 24x7 on the test server to open the copied file.

no - sorry I don't mean that - I want to run the same jobs but point them to a different remote agent (ie one on my test server).

Remote agent profiles are not stored in the job database, they are stored in the local computer registry. So if you set the agent profile to point to a different server you don't need to change your jobs. Keep profile name the same just change the Location field within the profile.
