Hello:

I have an NT server with 2 disks attached to it and I want to move a file (an Oracle database log file) from one disk to the other disk. The only way to do that now is manually by copying and moving and re-mapping the file.

Is there a scheduling mechanism in your product where you could specify this operation automatically without user intervention on a daily basis? If 24x7 doesn't do this, do you know of a product that does?

Regards,
Robert

P.S. Is there a UNIX version of your product in the works?

Why do you mean by "re-mapping the file?" renaming?
Does the file (to be copied) have fixed name?

Take a look at FileCopy, FileCopyEx of FileMove commands in the on-line help

Yes, we already have 24x7 RAS for Linux and a beta of 24x7 RAS for Solaris will be opened next week.

The task you are looking to perform can be done by using a JAL or VB Script job.
The actual syntax and commands used will depend on what type of Oracle file ( REDO, ARCHIVE, ALERT, DBF, ETC. ) you are attempting to copy and weither the database in up. Since you say re-map the file I wonder if you are talking about doing an ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE command. If so both the JAL and VB Script jobs can connect and execute commands in an Oracle database.

As for a UNIX version. I know that there is a LINUX version and a proposed SOLARIS version but you really don't need to have that to run scheduled jobs on a UNIX server. Depending on your security needs it is possible to have the 24x7 scheduler running on a Windows Server connect to your UNIX server using TELNET to execute commands and shell programs at a scheduled time and FTP to copy files.

I hope that this information was helpful.
