Post Service Question Reply with quote

Unfortuanately I'm quickly becoming an NT Services expert, but not quite. I have been able to get the service to run successfully provided that the
"allow desktop interaction" box is checked when running under the local system account. However, I need to run it under a specific user account and there isn't an allow desktop interaction checkbox when you choose that option.

Therefore, I think this is right... Because I'm running an eval version the "splash start" box doesn't appear so I can't hit continue and so even though the service says it has started the 24/7 engine isn't actually running.

Is there any way to test the NT service under a specific user account with the Eval version.

I am running Windows 2000 as my testing box, but all production installs, provided this program pans out will be NT x.x for now anyway.

Thanks.

You are right, only the Local System account has that check box. Unfortunately, there is no way for evaluation version to be setup as a service without Desktop interaction. Is the Local System is not enough for testing?

Most of the jobs I want the service to kick off involve transferring files across our network. The localsystem account does not have permission to move these files. Therefore many of the jobs I want to test will not run. From what I've read and tested so far, this is probable the program our firm could end up going with on a production level. However I have to be able to duplicate at least one of our systems processes with this new software before they will consider it for production.

thanks for you help. This support forum is very good.

You can obtain full trial license with a serial number. Please call +1(212)747-0140 to find out how to get it.

O.k. I set it up with the trial reg. # and everything works as long as I stay logged in. Now for the final hurdle. How can I set up the service so that I can log out and still have the service running WITH permissions to transfer files across the network. Or in other words. If the machine goes down and has to be rebooted how can I be sure that the service will start automatically with out my having to log in, yet still have the proper permissions.

You have only 2 options: install the service under LocalSystem account on the network domain server or setup your NT machine to logon automatically using settings from the registry (see 24x7 Tips and Scripts Archive for details).

Anf of course the service must have "automatic start" option selected in the Control Panel
