Post Win 2000 Pro Service Stop Msg Reply with quote

Hi,

I get this error message each time I stop the 24x7 service.

Could not stop the 24x7 Scheduler service on local computer
Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.

Then the service then DOES stop. And I can restart it.

Why the error?

It also doesn't appear to be launching any tasks at all after the service is started. Hmmm.

Simply disregards this error as not important.

The reason for the error is that the service consists of two executable modules - 24x7 Service Manager and the 24x7 Job Engine. When W2K stops this Service Manager, the Service Manager stops the Job Engine. W2K detects that there are two interacting processes and shows the "overlapping" error.

1 - Also when I uncheck the NT service it gives an error deleting the service. Then when I check it again, it gives an error that the service is already there.

2 - When running the service, my tasks do not appear to be running even thought they are scheduled to. What do I need to check?

Thanks.

1. You must be a local admin or a domain admin if the service is setup on the network server.

2. Are you running an evaluation version?
If yes, set the service to run as LocalSystem and check "Enable service to interact with the Desktop". Use Control Panel/Services applet to set these options.
If no, check Windows NT application event log for additional errors or warnings written to the event log.

Yes, I am running the eval and yes it works now. It also appears to be running when logged off. Good.

However, the task that I have set to run all day at 1 minute intervals and stop at 8AM this morning is still running every minute. Shouldn't it stop?

Note that the registered version does not have the reminder screen and so the service does not require user intervention on startup.

As for the "still running" job, please check the Properties tab page in the Job Explorer to make sure that end date and time are specified correctly as 2/21/2001 8:00AM. Especially please pay attention to the end date.

Yes, it is set to 8:00AM and it is still running. Strange. I reset the interval to 1 hour and it did change that.
