SSMS 22 - Wrong Database Selected |
|
I'm running the last version of SSMS and SQL Assistant. When I right-click on a database in Object Explorer and choose New Query, SSMS consistently selects the wrong database. I haven't determined if there's a rhyme or reason for which database is actually made active because it almost seems random - and it changes if I keep right-clicking on the same database. I opened a case with Microsoft and they had me disable SQL Assistant to see if it was the cause. Turns out disabling it fixed that problem. I tried uninstalled SA and reinstalling it and the same behavior returns. Any thoughts?

FYI, I just found the option to disable the "Document Manager" and the problem goes away. I'm honestly not sure what disabling it costs me from a functionality standpoint but, for the time being, I'm in better shape than I was before...

The document manager carries several functions, two main functions are keeping track of script revisions, and archiving them, as well as restoring environment to the state it was in when it was closed including tabs, scripts, unsaved changes, db context, tools.

Are you able to test against the latest version of SSMS and see if you can reproduce the issue? I have about 25 databases listed in Object Explorer and, with Document Manager enabled, right-clicking on any of them and choosing New Query, all bets are off which database ends up becoming active. With Document Manager disabled, it works 100% correctly. Just one clarifying point, you need to close SSMS after making the Document Manager changes for it to be fixed/broken.

Certainly. Will try with the latest to check what may have changed. Could be also a .NET update.
