[13.5.73 Pro] - Drawing result set grid issue |
|
This might be a Windows issue, but I'm reporting it here first, in case you know something about it or have an idea how to fix it.
Lately (for a year or so), drawing the result set pane, the grid, and the buttons on the top has become a pain-in-the-back experience. Even drawing a single result set is visibly slow, but when it comes to drawing multiple result sets from a single query, it becomes obvious that there are significant performance issues.
Check out this short video >>>here<<<.
It all happens in an epileptic blink of an eye, occasionally taking seconds to carve everything onto the screen. As if it were being drawn using a slab of stone, made of rubber, a dull chisel, and a very, very slow hammer.

It's likely happening when some background task is running simultaneously, either updating or resenting query execution history or background performance/syntax check.

This is getting worse. Like in 'unusable' worse. I have a query that yields 25 result sets, together with the Message tab it produces 26 tabs in the result sets pane. According to the Messages tab the whole shebang completes under 510 milliseconds. I ran a timer to measure how much time it takes for the editor to finish drawing everything and to display the actual results, and it was utterly depressing. It took around 26 seconds. Also, after hitting the Close All Assistant Windows hotkey, it takes around 3 seconds to remove the result sets pane.
There's something seriously wrong, and I cannot pinpoint what or where. Any hints on where to even look?

We will try to reproduce it with 25 result sets and share our results.

Still looking into that. While some potential optimizations have been found and being considered for the next maintenance release, we're still having difficulties with reproducing very long tab closing times. In our tests tabs close very fast.
Could you please tell us if the long times are database system dependent, takes same time for SQL Server and MariaDB, local SQLite? Any differences by database driver type (ADO vs ODBC/native)?
