Post [11.5.362]: Hot-track cursor seems out of alignment? Reply with quote
When using the ctrl-click to "hot-track" a column or table, it seems that the cursor heavily leans on the RIGHT side of the named item, sometimes as far out as the alias before it gets underlined and "hot-tracked".

To me, it feels like the shorter the table name, the more pronounced it becomes. Here's a video:

You can see the first select, I'm basically at the "AS" before the hot track underlines the table and pops up the box.

Then as the table names get longer, it seems it becomes less pronounced.

Comparatively, S.A 9.2.346 on a very old VM:

I think this is screen/font scaling handling issue that we are trying to improve on in v12. Your old VM has a smaller screen resolution which is what makes the difference. V11 and all prior versions cannot handle properly scaling above 125%, which leads to side effects demonstrated in your video. Please try changing your monitor scaling to 100% or 125% just to test if things work better.

My scaling is set to 100%, the only difference is this monitor is in a vertical orientation. However even moving SSMS to a landscaped monitor, still with 100% scaling.. the same issue occurs. The VM is using my source screen resolution of 1920x1080 as well.

So the primary differences when scaling seems to not be the issue.

Version of SQL Assistant
Version of SSMS

A SQL Server 2019 VM, with SSMS 18.8 (versus 18.9.2) and the current version of SQL Assistant, using my source resolution of 1920x1080 does not exhibit this problem... strangely enough.

Using the SQL Assistant 64 bit editor on the same desktop exhibiting the issue in SSMS does not have this issue. SSMS "zoom" in the lower right is set to 100%, but I tried lower and higher with no success.

Are you saying the issue is manifesting when using combination of SSMS 18.9 and SQL Assistant 11.5. Did I capture it correctly?

That seems to be the case, but so far only on my workstation. Upgrading my server 2019 install to 18.9.2 for SSMS I don’t seem to get the hot tracking issues.

Same settings as my desktop as far as resolution and everything since it inherits it via RDP from the computer using the RDP client.

Got it!

Enabling line numbers in SSMS shifts the text enough to the right to skew the hot-tracking cursor location.

My VMs didn't have line numbers enabled and I realized that was one thing I didn't check, so I just checked it. Turning them off fixes it, turning them on breaks the hot-track cursor detection.

Thank you. Now I can reproduce it too. I have opened a ticket for this issue.

This still seems to be an issue in 12.x. Was work done for the 12.x release or is this a 'down the road' fix?

This is still an outstanding issue. It didn't make to 12.0 release.
