Post failed to load SqlAssist.Mso.dll Reply with quote
Hi,

I temporarily resolved the error

Application C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\MSACCESS.EXE failed to load SqlAssist.mso.dll earlier this morning, by copying the latest dll files into the ..\Office16 folder.

But it's recurring again, now. It happens whenever I got into the Access 2016 query designer. I've confirmed that the dll is in the location where the error is occurring.

Since the agency removed admin access to all of our PCs, I reinstalled Sql Assistant more than a month ago, into another folder c:\software\Installed\SqlAssistant. (I had temporary access, and used it to reinstall as many apps as possible, outside of \program files.)

So I guess the easiest question would be, how do you re-point Sql Assistant to the \software\Installed\SqlAssistant folder? Sql Assistant itself is properly installed there, but it's still pointing to Program Files for its dlls.

Btw - The plugins for access seem to include up to 2013, according to Options. But during the Install, the plugins listed for Access are up to only 2010. It doesn't hurt anything, just an fyi.

Hi,

I'm not seeing any references to Program Files here. Where are you seeing it?
Do you have SQL Assistant's system tray application running when you get that error? Do you get the same error when that application isn't running?

Another important test is to check whether SQL Assistant is able to connect to the same database, the error you are swing might be secondary, a side effect of something else. Please open SQL Editor that's installed with SQL Assistant and try to connect it to the same Access file.

That's part of the problem. It's not installed in Program files, but the error message states that's where the dll is.

The SqlAssist.Mso.dll is in

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\

and

c:\software\Installed\SqlAssistant\data\

The program itself, is in stalled in c:\software\Installed\SqlAssistant.

How do you attach a jpg, so I can show the contents of the error message?

Regarding connecting to the database with sql editor, I can't figure out how to unconnect from sql server, and reconnect to Access. I don't want it to Autoconnect, but after installing the latest update this morning, Sql Editor Autoconnects to Sql Server.

Sql Editor was able to work with the access database, yesterday.

For autoconnect and other saved settings, please open the Options dialog. There is a DB Connections section where you can change settings for all saved connections

I don't understand. It's necessary to click img when posting messages?

Are you talking about adding image attachments?

I know that, of course. But I don't see where the AutoConnect Yes/No option is. It's not in any of the main settings under Connections, nor under the Custom Settings.

In other words, Sql Editor is automatically connecting to Sql Server. There isn't any Disconnect button. If I want to run some Access queries, I don't know how to disconnect from Sql Server, and Reconnect as Access.

Before I updated Sql Assistant this morning, I had it set NOT to autoconnect, and so I would get the Connect dialog. Now, that doesn't happen.

To connect to a different server, right-click in the editor then SQL Assistant -> Connect
Or alternatively click first button in the second row of toolbar.
It will prompt it for the connection.

You can uncheck autoconnect or just change the connection to something else.

Ok, thanks.

So, yes Sql Assistant/Sql Editor works with the Access database. it does seem to have problems finding linked tables. In the Schema, it shows only Views, and under the Views it shows only the Queries that we defined. There are no tables listed there.

Anyway, that's not really important. We'll use the Access Editors with the Sql Assistant plugin for building & testing queries.

The bad news is, we still get that message about failing to connect to the .dll. Good news is, the plugin seems to work anyway. When we type select, it displays the tables, etc.

The only other problem, is at the end, when you close the database. There's always an Access violation error.

Should I copy and paste the errors and addresses here? (No, can't send it in the normal fashion. The agency has a firewall in place).

Summarily,

1. When entering a query inside Access 2016, Sql Assistant generates an error that it can't open that .dll. The path of the .dll is in Program Files, although Sql Assistant itself is installed elsewhere.

2. Sql Assistant seems to be working as expected, aside from the errors.

3. When exiting the Access database, Sql Assistant generates an Access violation.

That DLL is referenced somewhere in the system registry

Please check keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Access\Addins
and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Access\Addins
if you see it there and referencing Program files, please remove that key.

Also, if you used in the past different user accounts it may also appear in similar locations under HKEY_USERS\...\Software\Microsoft\Office\Access\Addins. If you find them, please remove them too.

Those first 2 keys don't have any references to SqlAssistant, although there are many in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\....

I'm doing a global search through the registry, for occurrences of SqlAssistant. So far, none of them report anything in \Program Files, but will continue searching.

Thanks.
