SQL Assistant Broke Windows Explorer Command For SQL Files |
|
After I installed the latest SQL Assistant (7.5.494), the following bug occurred:
If SSMS (SQL Server Management Studio) is not open, double-clicking a SQL File or opening a SQL File in Windows Explorer will open SSMS. However, after that, double-clicking other SQL Files does not open them up in SSMS.
The first time SSMS is open, double-clicking a SQL File will open the SQL File is SSMS. After that, double-clicking other SQL Files will not open them in SSMS.
Please Fix.
Thank you.

I'm not sure how that is related. What happens when you drag and drop files on SSMS?

Installing SQL Assistant caused the bug listed below to occur. This bug is also in the latest version. Although Dragging and Dropping works, I shouldn't have to. Would you please fix your product so that Double-Clicking a SQL file in Windows Explorer always opens the SQL File in SQL Server Management Studio if selected to do so?
Thank you.

Have you restarted your computer after the upgrade?

Yes.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled in the 494 Release before updating to the latest one and that still did not fix it.
If I open SQL Files using another Application, the Double-Click Feature always works.
Thank you.

If SQL Assistant is completely uninstalled, I can double-click as many SQL Files as I want and they will open in SSMS. If SQL Assistant is installed (including the PC being rebooted), the Double-Click Feature is broken. Please fix your application.
Thank you.

We are unable to reproduce this issue. Which SSMS version are you running? On which platform?

Please temporarily associate SQL files with Notepad or SQL Assistant's Editor. Can you open multiple files using double-click? In other words, is that issue specific to your SSMS version?

If I associate the SQL Files with another Product, Double-Clicking the Files always works. If I uninstall SQL Assistant, Double-Clicking the Files always opens them up in SSMS. Once SQL Assistant is installed, the behavior listed in the first message starts happening.
Thank you.

This has been confirmed as a reproducible issue for SSMS 2008 version. Our team is looking if a fix can be developed quickly.
