Flicker |
|
I have a new problem with 5.0. I am using SSMS and VS2008. I notice a flicker every time I press a key. This is most noticeable over RDP. This does not happen with 4.8 and it seems worst with larger SQL files. Is there an option I can turn off to stop this?

Is my only solution to downgrade to 4.8?

Do you have SSMS plugin 5.0 registred in 5.0 or you are running it in non plug-in mode?

I checked the change log and as far as I can see there are no significant UI repainting changes in version 5. Can you describe ina bit more details when and where exactly you see the flickering? Are you running v5 with the same options as v4? I mean background syntax checker, check frequency, same connection type, etc...

I did an upgrade so I assume the settings are the same.
Every time I press a key all the text disappears and reappears (flickers).
If I close the try icon it continues to happen
if I suspend it continues to happen
if I set the integration mode to None to continues to happen
if I uninstall it stops
This only happens over RPD. However, we are switching all our devs to VM's and they are going to RDP to the VM.
It may sound like a minor complaint but it becomes very annoying after a while. Its like its repaiting the whole text area every time I press a key

Can you verify that you don't see that effect when running version v4?
If you don't have an install for version 4, please email to supportATsofttreetech.com and we will provide you with a download link.

Which area is flickering? Is it happening after each key press or randomly? Is it happening in an empty editor when you start typing in a blank window?

One more thing, please try turning off the background syntax checker process. Please let us know if that affects the screen flickering?

I unchecked "real-time mode" (even though it was deactivated) and turned off the syntax checker and it seems a lot better.
I will have another dev who was having the same problem test this.
Any chance this will get fixed? It also seems like not everything turns off when you "suspend" SQL Assistant

Another note: I asked another dev to try this. When I went to his system it looked like spell check was disabled. I had him enable it and then disable it and his flicker got better.

Please also check your db connection settings. In SSMS it is advisable to use ADO.NET connection over ODBC connection.
