Post Restore scheduler settings Reply with quote
I've used one of the job templates to backup the job database file, the registry, and other misc files. It's my understanding that the registry file contains the settings of the scheduler and the way to restore it is simply double-clicking on the reg file on the backup server. Unfortunately, it didn't work because none of the queues and database profiles carried over. I even went into the registry (regedit) to check the entries and the correct values are all there. I also forced the refresh of the registry by restarting the explorer.exe but that still didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you load the registry file while 24x7 was running? 24x7 should be shutdown when you load or change the registry manually, otherwise it will not see your changes. It reads registry settings on startup only.

Yes, the scheduler was shutdown (the service wasn't running either) when I attempted to update the registry. I actually tried to do this on another server just to make sure it wasn't something to do with the server and it didn't work either. Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks.

Thanks for the file. I see errors in the text. Almost every key value between [ ] brackets has extra backlash. For example
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0\\Agents
this should be changed to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0\Agents

Please modify the job script not to double backslashes in key names

Actually let me take back the last statement about "Please modify the job script not to double backslashes in key names"

The system regedit utility on your server that generates invalid .REG file, not 24x7. I just tried this job on 2 different systems and they both create correct .REG files.

I removed the double backslash but it's still not working. Here's a screenshot of the registry with the correct keys and values for the queues, for example. I am not sure what the issue is...

Please try deleting the existing key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0 before re-runing the corrected .REG file.

I finally figured out what the issue is. Our scheduler is running on a 64bit machine and so the 32bit default registry key path won't work in this case. I found the correct key path from our installation: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SoftTree Technologies, Inc.\24x7 Scheduler\3.0.

After that was changed in the registry file, it worked. Thanks for guiding me to the solution!

Thanks for the status update. I'm glad you found the solution. I wasn't aware that you are running it on a 64-bit system and it would take a while to guess that. In case you are planning on using 32-bit system as a backup, you may want to modify the job and add FileReplaceEx commands to make the job script update contents of the .REG file before it is zipped with other files.
